DOC Appoints New Warden at Keen Mountain Correctional Center

RICHMOND – Virginia Department of Corrections (DOC) Director Gene Johnson announced today the appointment of Kathleen Bassett as Warden of Keen Mountain Correctional Center (KMCC) in Buchanan County, effective April 10, 2003.

“Kathy’s supervisory talents are well suited to the position of Warden,” said Director Johnson.  “I’m sure DOC employees around the state join me in congratulating her.”

Bassett began her career with the DOC in 1981 as a Probation and Parole Officer in Roanoke.  She has served as Regional Ombudsman and Regional Program Manager for the DOC Western Region.  Since 1997, she has held the position of Superintendent at Tazewell Correctional Unit.  Bassett is a graduate of State University College at Oneonta, New York, with a degree in Sociology.

Opened in 1990, KMCC is a security Level 4 (medium) male facility with an average daily inmate population of 850.

Bassett replaces Jack Lee who assumed the position of Warden at Coffeewood Correctional Center earlier this year.
