Greensville Correctional Center Offender Dies

RICHMOND - The Virginia Department of Corrections has confirmed that an inmate at Greensville Correctional Center in Jarratt, Virginia, died yesterday, September 12, from unnatural causes. An inmate-on-inmate attack is suspected. Virginia State Police are investigating.

Medical treatment was rendered immediately and until the offender was taken by ambulance to the hospital. The offender was pronounced dead at the Southern Virginia Regional Medical Center in Emporia.

The 33-year old male offender is not being identified pending notification of family. He was serving a sentence of 11 years, 24 months, and 10 days. Convictions included grand larceny and burglary. His projected release was June, 2016.

No staff or other inmates were injured.
