Following a brief ceremony, officials will cut the ribbon to the new vets’ dorm and tour the dorm, which the incarcerated veterans moved into in July. Media are invited to cover the entire tour and speak with officials and consenting offenders.

The Virginia Department of Corrections’ VETS program (Veterans Expecting to Transition Successfully) at Haynesville is a pilot program open to incarcerated veterans who are within 24 to 36 months of their release date and were not dishonorably discharged. VETS participants aim to regain the respect and honor they once held while serving their country and to re-enter society successfully. All branches of the military are represented in the program.
