SDTP – Lessons from Mayberry

Cognitive Program
  • Description

This program provides inmates with structured modeling for positive interactions with family and other social interactions based on clips from the popular TV show Andy Griffith. This program is part of the Secure Diversionary Treatment Program (SDTP) for Serious Mental Illness (SMI) Inmates. SDTP is designed to provide a secure and safe alternative treatment option for inmates with a major mental illness who otherwise would be in restorative housing because of behavior that may be considered a threat to the safety and security of staff or other inmates. Inmates who qualify often exhibit behaviors that are intractable and unresponsive to the usual therapeutic and management interventions available in the regular general population setting.
