VADOC Facilities & District Offices Donate School Supplies Statewide

Throughout the summer, Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) facilities and probation and parole districts across the Commonwealth have participated in several back-to-school drives, helping children start the new school year off with necessary supplies.
“While returning to classes offers a fresh start for many families and children, it can be a financial burden on many families across the Commonwealth,” said VADOC Director Chad Dotson. “I am so proud of our corrections team across Virginia for easing the load on families and students with their generous donations.”
Below is a full breakdown highlighting the VADOC’s back-to-school donations:
Eastern Region
- Brunswick CCAP held a school supply drive for Brunswick County Public Schools students.
- District 42, Franklin, collected school supplies throughout August and donated them to S.P. Morton Elementary School in Franklin.
- VADOC’s Eastern Regional Office and Deerfield Correctional Complex donated multiple boxes of backpacks to Capron Elementary School in Southampton County.
- Greensville Correctional Center participated in a back-to-school drive at Totaro Elementary School’s annual open house in Lawrenceville.
- Haynesville Correctional Center’s Healing Environment Committee held a back-to-school drive, collecting school supplies and donating them to five local schools.
- Sussex I State Prison held a back-to-school drive for the children of fellow correctional team members.
Central Region
- Baskerville Correctional Center held a school supply drive and donated the supplies to LaCrosse Elementary School in Mecklenburg County.
- Buckingham Correctional Center delivered more than $1,200 in school supplies to the Buckingham County School Board for distribution to local students.
- Central Virginia Correctional Unit 13 donated supplies to Bellwood Elementary School in Chesterfield County.
- Coffeewood Correctional Center’s Healing Environment Ambassadors delivered supplies to Pearl Sample Elementary School in Culpeper.
- Dillwyn Correctional Center donated school supplies to Buckingham Primary and Elementary schools.
- District 8, South Boston, donated 50 backpacks to students in Halifax County.
- District 21, Fredericksburg, gave away school supplies at its National Night Out event in Spotsylvania County.
- District 24, Farmville, donated school supplies to Prince Edward County Elementary School.
- District 25, Leesburg, donated backpacks filled with school supplies to Fauquier Fish, a non-profit in Warrenton, for distribution to local schools.
- District 29, Fairfax, donated more than $1,100 in school supplies to Mount Eagle Elementary School in Alexandria and Annandale Terrace Elementary School in Fairfax County.
- Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women donated supplies to Central Elementary School in Fluvanna County.
- Halifax Correctional Unit 23 donated school supplies to Sinai Elementary School in Halifax County.
- Lunenburg Correctional Center collected more than 60 backpacks filled with school supplies for local students.
- Nottoway Correctional Center donated school supplies to Blackstone Primary School and Nottoway County Social Services.
Western Region
- District 14, Danville, delivered several boxes of school supplies to staff at Kentuck Elementary School in Pittsylvania County.
- Multiple probation and parole officers from District 17, Abingdon read to students at Meadowview Elementary School in Washington County during Read Across America Week.
- District 22, Martinsville, and Green Rock Correctional Center partnered to collect school supplies for several local schools.
- Red Onion State Prison donated school supplies to Norton Elementary and Middle schools.
- Wise Correctional Unit 18 inmates assisted five schools in Wise County, Russell County, and the City of Norton in preparing for their reopening by painting, moving equipment, and maintaining the lawns.
