Virginia Department of Corrections to Seek New Offender Health Care Services Provider

June 03, 2014

RICHMOND — The Virginia Department of Corrections received notice yesterday from Corizon Health, Inc. that the Brentwood, Tennessee-based correctional health care services provider is terminating its contract with the Department.

Privately held Corizon is exercising an option available under its current contract with the Department (VADOC) to give VADOC 120 days’ notice of the company’s desire to terminate its contract. VADOC entered into an agreement with Corizon for offender healthcare services in May, 2013.

Corizon employees working in VADOC facilities may remain in place following the transition to a new provider if they so choose. The Department will immediately start an emergency procurement process to find another health care services provider.

“Reliable, quality health care for incarcerated offenders is of the utmost importance,” said VADOC Director Harold Clarke. “We are constitutionally bound to provide such care, and we will work to ensure continuity of services during this transition period.”

More information on the VADOC can be found at www.vadoc.virginia.gov.
