  • Description

    To provide evidence-based recovery services by trained individuals who have demonstrated recovery from mental health challenges and substance use disorders to incarcerated individuals to increase overall wellness and reduce recidivism. The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) PRS Training is a 72-hour training including 60 classroom or virtual classroom hours and 12 hours of homework. This training provides extensive education including wellness, communication, support, building rapport, dealing with challenging situations, and ethics.

    72 Hours

  • Eligibility

    Participants free from substance misuse or any mental health reoccurrences for 12 months; or worked closely with an immediate family member for at least 12 months who has a substance use disorder and / or mental health challenges; high school diploma/ GED. Meets criteria in VADOC PRS Program manual.
