Video Visitation — Virginia Department of Corrections

We offer video visitation in partnership with Assisting Families of Inmates (AFOI). As a family member or friend of an inmate, you can meet with your incarcerated loved ones remotely, and reduce the cost of traveling long distances.

Types of Video Visitation

We offer two types of video visitation services:

At-home Video Visitation

At-home Video Visitation allows you to visit with your loved one from the comfort of your home using a home computer, tablet, or Android smartphone.

Video Visitation from a Visitor Center

In partnership with AFOI, we offer video visitation at several Visitation Centers throughout the state. This option allows those who do not have the necessary technology at home to participate in video visitation. Additionally, family and friends of inmates who do not qualify for At-home Video Visitation may be able to use this option.

At Home Video Visitation Information

Applications Required

No application is required to participate in At-Home Video Visitation only. For in-person visitation, you will need to complete the VADOC visitation application.
Equipment Required
- Desktop or laptop computer
- Tablet (all except iPads)
- Android smartphone
Please note: iPhones and iPads are not compatible for video visits.
Scheduling

Schedule a video visit online using our Visitation Scheduler. New users will need to register for an account. Once registered, you will be able to log in to the system and choose an available date and time for your video visitation session.
Cost

Video Visits can be scheduled in 20 minute or 50 minute time blocks at a cost of $0.20 per minute.
- $4 — 20 minute visit
- $10 — 50 minute visit
Restrictions

Inmates who are required to register on the Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors registry for a sexual offense are not eligible.
General Information
- All video visits are monitored and recorded.
- Specific hours vary by institution.
- All visitors must follow the Video Visitation Rules and Dress Code. Violation of these rules will include, at minimum, a 12-month suspension of video visitation privileges. The number of external visitors are 4 for video centers per visit.
- All participants must be on time to participate in their video visitation session. Visitors must be logged in to the system at least 15 minutes ahead of their scheduled visit.

Visitor Center Video Visitation Information

Applications Required

To participate in video visitation at an AFOI Visitor Center, you must first complete the VADOC visitation application and receive approval to visit. Once approved, you will need to submit a separate video visitation application to AFOI. Please visit the AFOI website for more details.
Equipment Required

No personal equipment required to participate.
Scheduling
- Complete the VADOC visitation application and receive approval.
- Submit a separate video visitation application to AFOI.
- Once your paperwork has been processed, AFOI will contact you to complete registration. Schedule your visit through the AFOI website or by calling AFOI at (804) 643-2401.
